Jerusalem

Graceless

Driving without headlights or a map
With fuel enough to get there but not back

Siphoned dry; reduced to petty theft
This is the desert at its most bereft

The answering of prayers with one word: ‘soon’
Then told to make the most of making do

Because it’s one thing to make art from paint
Another to pry beauty from constraint

But I suppose that’s what is meant by ‘faith’
Graceless but for courage to create.
